Structural Engineering + Build
NDD worked with Quieter Homes to preserve and protect the historic features of this classic Point Loma residence originally designed by master architect Richard S. Requa, one of San Diego’s most notable architects best known for his work in Balboa Park. NDD was responsible for the structural engineering and construction on the historic remodel. Requa was mindful of sustainability principles and positioned the home to receive both natural light and ventilation throughout the day. This design ideology falls perfectly in line with NDD’s sustainability oriented construction practices. Since the home is of historical nature, NDD’s construction was done in as non-invasive manner as possible. Previous bootleg additions and “Home Depot remodels” were removed and all materials for the new construction were custom made and built to fit the original Spanish style home. Renovations included all new custom windows, flooring, doors, tile work, and cabinetry. The home was also upgraded to meet new energy efficiency standards by adding new insulation, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems.
