Original. Efficient. Aesthetically beautiful
Sustainability was key when it came to designing and building the home, and Shayan stands proudly as the first LEED Certified Gold single family home in the city of San Diego. Aesthetically, classic modern characteristics meet accommodating features in this stunning open-concept home, featured in Houzz. One of the most impressive aspects about this project isn’t the home itself; rather, it’s how the home was built. By composing a partially subterranean design, we were able to build on a lot that, with its dramatic slope, was considered unbuildable. Not only did we succeed in doing something some considered impossible, we also set a precedent for how a home built to LEED certifiable standards can truly be a beautiful place to live.

EXTERIOR
Black and white colors contrast in a stunning display of exterior design. Architectural elements adding to the sustainability aspect include overhangs and roof angle, providing shading and ideal placement for solar panels. Double-glazed windows provide thermal insulation. Drought-resistant plants lower the water cost while adding to the “green” aesthetic. A backyard serves as an excellent place for reading a book, or other leisure activities. Relaxation and energy efficiency blend together in a stunning fashion, a magnificent example of the potential behind sustainable homes.
INTERIOR
The home’s orientation was carefully examined to maximize sustainability features without sacrificing any aesthetic elements. Open concept living spaces lines with floor-to-ceiling windows let in an abundance of natural light. Passive ventilation, heating and cooling lowers electricity costs. Environmentally friendly materials are consistent within the home, from wooden staircases to concrete floors, providing an incredible link between the outdoors and indoors. Black beams contrast with white walls and ceilings, combining aesthetic value to sustainable elements to make this a truly unique home.
